Privacy Statement for Members

Protecting your privacy and the confidentiality of your information -- over the Internet, on the telephone, or through our offices -- has always been fundamental to the way we do business at the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce. We have created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to the privacy of our members, partners and potential site visitors.

The Chamber will only collect information necessary for its operation. Information collected from Chamber members is the following:
• Business name
• Contact names
• Position in company
• Mailing address
• Physical address if different from mailing address
• Postal code
• Telephone, fax and toll-free numbers
• E-mail address
• Web address
• Type of business
• Visa/Mastercard/American Express numbers and expiry dates, if these cards are
used for membership fees or other purchases from the Chamber
• Number of full- and part-time employees
• Number of years in business
• Membership fee

Use of your business information
The above information is used by the Chamber
• to stay informed about your business
• to refer others to your business
• for the production and distribution of the annual membership directory
• for member listings on the Chamber website
• for event registrations
• to determine Chamber membership fee structure
• to send information (newsletters, weekly electronic bulletins and other resources) to your business.

No information will be collected without the express consent of the organization, company or individual concerned. Members may choose to omit certain of this information [e-mail address, contact name] from their business listing in the Chamber directory and website. Members may also opt out of receiving electronic bulletins from the chamber. Personal information about Chamber members is not collected by your Chamber of Commerce. Personal information includes:
• information relating to race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex,
sexual orientation, marital or family status of individuals.
• Social Insurance Numbers
• Views or opinions of one individual about another individual.

Internet privacy The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce respects the privacy of its Internet users and will protect that privacy as vigorously as possible.

The Chamber does not collect information that personally identifies individuals except when individuals provide such specific information on a voluntary basis. There are occasions where specific personal information is requested before an individual can enter certain sections of the Chamber website. Members are provided with log-in information in order to access the members-only section. [Members are responsible for the safeguarding and sharing of their membership information within their own business or organization]. Further individual information is requested by the chamber for sections such as online event registration and requests for feedback In all cases, the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce will collect only information that is voluntarily provided by the user and undertakes that such information will be kept strictly confidential. Individual information provided to the Chamber to gain access to any feature of the Chamber site will not be sold or made available to a third party.

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce does reserve the right, however, to perform statistical analyses of user behaviour and characteristics, in order to measure interest in and use of the various sections of its sites so as to improve design and navigation and to gather marketing information. Only aggregated data from these analyses, not individual data, will be used for this purpose. Through the website, you may enter domains that are beyond the boundaries of the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce and, once there, the Chamber is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these web sites.
