The breakdown in Canada–U.S. trade talks creates significant uncertainty for businesses here in Kingston and across the country. We are entering uncharted territory, and the impact will be felt by businesses, workers and families.
For many businesses, that uncertainty became very real this morning. Business leaders are now assessing what these developments mean for their operations, including inventory and supply costs, staffing levels, distribution and supply chains, customer pricing, and future investment decisions.
These are significant decisions being made in a rapidly changing environment, with very little certainty about what comes next.
Kingston businesses have proven their resilience before, and they will again. But they should not have to navigate this uncertainty alone. Governments at all levels must move quickly to provide practical supports, protect Canadian businesses and workers, and help companies adapt and diversify their markets.
Locally, supporting Canadian and Kingston businesses is more important than ever. Much like during the pandemic, the choices we make as consumers and businesses can have a real impact. When possible, we encourage our community to buy local, choose Canadian and support the businesses that support our community.
The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce will continue working with our provincial and national Chamber network and all levels of government to ensure Kingston’s business community has a strong voice and access to the supports it needs.
